"The greater danger for most of us
lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short;
but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark."
Italian architect, painter, & sculptor (1475 - 1564)
SHIFTING FROM HELPLESS TO EMPOWERED
Village to Village Foundation will be working with veterans and their families who are struggling with the effects of combat-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It is our hope that as our military men and women have sacrificed for us, we as citizens will answer the call, and sacrifice for them as they return home to a country they have valiantly represented, but often feel a stranger to once they have returned.
PTSD has been occuring with each battle throughout history. While the core symptoms have remained the same, each war has imprinted unique qualities of that particular time in history onto the surviving men and women. The military, science, and culture have also grown in their understanding of PTSD and other related psychological struggles. These advancements are thankfully yielding more options for healing and avenues of support for our military men and women who have sacrificed for us.
We are putting together a program we hope will bring together civilian communities with their veterans and families to start dialouge about combat-related PTSD. We have received a great deal of feedback concerning the need for people to understand what combat-related PTSD is and how they can help others who experience its effects.
